About this 3D model
I printed one of Gecko's desk signs warning people that my 3D printer is useful for a lot of things so please don't talk to me about that damned gun thing. But I wanted a flat one I could print and affix to the front of the rolling cart my 3D printer is on, since that's where it's the most appropriate. I wasn't able to get the original file, so I imported Gecko's STL into Google SketchUp, then spent ages healing surfaces and stripping out a lot of the unnecessary curves. No matter how long I chased the flaws, Google SketchUp always remembered enough of them that the resulting model was non-manifold and beyond Netfabb's powers to fix. In the end, I had to rebuild it from scratch, which took a fraction of the time I wasted. Lesson learned! As with Gecko's original, this isn't intended as a statement about guns, but just about how annoying it is that the first and only thing everyone talks about when you bring up 3D printing is guns.
