About this 3D model

A small section of the southern California coast was downloaded and used to create two relief maps of the San Diego area. See thing:109351 and http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/coastal/crm.html The first map shows the area around San Diego. There is an obvious earthquake fault under San Diego called the Rose Canyon fault. It starts north of Mission Bay and enters the sea near Mount Solidad. A pdf file, key.pdf, marks the location of this fault and other points of interest. A second map, shifted seawards, includes the sea floor as an inverse plot. Sea floor depths to 60 meters are set to sea level so as to divide the above and below sea level parts. The end of the Rose Canyon fault coincides with the beginning of a submarine canyon known as the La Jolla trench. Source code is provided. A zipped version of the data file is included for convenience.
