A medallion is a large medal made by casting, not minted. In ancient Roman numismatics, it is a coin of prestige and homage of a multiple value of the reference coins for the metal used. In gold, we know medallions of 2,4,6, or exceptionally 8 or 10 times the weight of the common aureus.
