About this 3D model
I bought the Maker Bot Digitizer even though there was quite a bit of bad feed back on Amazon.com - I found it quite an amazing bit of kit, i mean for the price. Because the lasers are fixed you have to angle the object, make small props from thin wire, angle the object. I have found 10 or 12 scans are more than enough, I also built a cardboard hood to go over the whole device but sitting on legs to allow a bit of light inside the box, just used a few tall glasses. You will also find down loading a free software like Meshmixer helps with the bumpy surface. I think this device is very cool. I have already made a new product out of modelling clay, scanned it and then printed it, came out fab. There is a bit of messing around and trying different things, but if you have the time, well worth the money. If Maker Bot decide to build a new version of this scanner, I would have four towers all at different heights with multi lazers, to get every angle possible, a tilting base for the object, maybe even a hood to help the quality of the lazers.
