In this portrait Hercules looks like a mature man, lost in thought, like a philosopher. As a matter of fact this was the rol he had acquired at the beginning of the Hellenistic age, when he was considered the guardian of the disciplines combining mental and physical exercises. The work dates back to the Augustan age.
