Commissioned by Charles William Steward, Marquis of Londonderry, the scheme of this group refers to the portrait Bartolini did of Elisa Baciocchi and her daughter Elisa Napoleona, today at Versailles, but the tone of the composition here assumes a more familial and sentimental character.
