The soprano Virginia De Blasis (1804 - 1838) is portrayed in theatrical pose and in her stage costume as she sings one of her great triumphs from the opera Beatrice di Tenda by Vincenzo Bellini: "Deh! Se un' urna m'è con-cessa, senza fior non la lasciate." Of this monument, Romantic criticism praised the compositional naturalness and, moreover, the abandonment of till-then customary allegorical personifications, Muses or crying Genii.
