Kelkar Museum: one man’s collection of 21,000 objects of art. The temple's of south India are decorated with scenes and figures of animal and bird life. Usually at the entrance of temple's a fabulous lion-faced animal is portrayed with sharp teeth and huge claws. This creature is called a 'Yali'. They are tall fearful looking sculptures with a face of a roaring lion with a muscular body as though about to pounce on the prey. There may be many variations in its anatomy and it may also be designed as a combination of an elephant and a lion.
