This marble statue comes from Magnesia (located near Agora, Turkey), and is an example of a honorific sculpture. These were used since the 3rd century BC to elevate the image of urban elites in public's eye. They were also meant to be an exemplary role for citizens, so they would be placed in public squares to be easily seen.
