This bust depicts a portrait of Jesus Christ, the son of God and saviour of the world. In this particular piece, he seems less modest and humble than in most portrayals, his hair is also more styled. Antonio Begarelli (1499–1565), the author of this bust, was an Italian sculptor. Begarelli worked chiefly at Modena, where many churches are decorated with his plastic compositions in terra-cotta.
