Christian Daniel Rauch (1777-1857) was Germany's foremost neoclassical sculptor. This bust of the King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia was carved at the height of Rauch's career, in 1826. It was reproduced in many materials later and became the King's definitive image.
