Ganesha is one of the best-known and most worshipped deities in Hinduism. His image is found throughout India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bali (Indonesia), Bangladesh and Nepal. Although he is known by many attributes, Ganesha's elephant head makes him easy to identify. He is known as the patron of the arts and sciences and protector of wisdom. He is also the god of beginnings, so is often honoured at the start of ceremonies.
