John Goodsir (c. 1814-1867) was a Professor of Anatomy at Edinburgh and a pioneer in the study of cellular physiology. By his excellent teaching and research, he restored prestige to Edinburgh's anatomical tradition after it had been damaged by both the "Burke and Hare" scandal (1828) and the scientific incompetence of his predecessor Alexander Monro tertius.
