This is a statue of Zeus, Zeus is the god of the sky, lightning and thunder in ancient Greek religion and myth, and king of the gods on Mount Olympus. This sculpture is made in a severe style, or Early Classical style, the dominant idiom of Greek sculpture in the period ca. 490 to 450 BCE. It was an international style found at many cities in the Hellenic world and in a variety of media including sculpture in the round, stelae, and architectural relief. The sculpture was discovered in Kition.
