***scroll down for 2.0 upgrades This spool holder is the result of an improvement of the original spool holder made by Prusa. On the occasion of the design challenge "pimp my Prusa". I tried to follow the main themes of the challenge creating an improved functional part and making it look better: The screw-cone sistem allows to quickly mount every type of spool, guaranteeing stability during print and a low friction rotation thanks to the special bushing shape. The arm has been totally re-designed with an UNIQUE FEM-DERIVED LATTICE STRUCTURE. With an extraordinary stiffness and a low weight. This unusual lattice design costed me several hours of hard work with special CAD and FEM softwares and I'm really proud of the final shape. All the system is printable but the work is still in progress, check later for upgrades! :) P.S: the rod can be easily replaced with a PVC or metal 16mm commercial rod (I suggest you to do it). +++++ 2.0 UPGRADE +++++ - Bushings improvement, now the shape is easier to be printed. - Arm sectioned, now the arm is divided in 3 parts that can be aligned into the slicer in order to allow a dual material print and a custom infill for coupling areas.
