In this bronze relief Auguste Préault depicted Publio Virgilio Marone, better known as Virgilio, who was a Roman poet. He is author to some of the most known Latin literary works such as Bucoliche, Georgiche and Eneide. Virgilio was a greatly known personality in the ancient Rome. Many other poets and writers mention him in their works such as Dante Alighieri. In Dante’s famous Divina Commedia, Virgilio is honoured to be the main character’s guide through Hell and Purgatory.
