DESCRIPTION Yet another bag clip. Here is a useful bag clip that tightly closes a folded plastic bag or similar. This design is printed as a single part. For heavy and wide clamping, I've included two versions of the 120mm clamp, 10 and 12mm wide. The 12mm wide clamp still flexes, but flexes less (my favourite). My clip design does not use much filament and comes in three lengths. The three clip lengths with clamping sizes of 60, 90 and 120mm, respectively. Please note that I have published an updated bag clip design. The new clip clamps the same way as the original and popular design, but has some asked for improvements, including: Stronger; all clips are now 12mm wide and printed with 4 wall loops. Clamp separation gap has been reduced to make a tighter fit. New bag clip can be found on Maker World at link … Bag Clip 1.1 PLASTICS I experimented and considered making the clip in a few different plastics. Some plastics performed better than others, but you need to consider the how and where the clips are going to be used. Keep in mind that all clips (other designs, too) will either break or deform if what you’re clamping is too thick for the clamp. PLA PLA printed clips are usable in many conditions, but I found that PLA clips used in the freezer become brittle and break. PETG PETG printed clips performed well in most environments, readily available and reasonably strong. I printed many PETG clips and they continue to perform well after many months. Polycarbonate (PC) I tried printing clips in polycarbonate. These clips worked for a little while, but PC doesn’t like to flex and they broke only after a few uses. Polypropylene (PP) Most injection moulded clips that you can buy are made in Polypropylene. This plastic is a good choice for bag clips and works in most environments. Unfortunately, PP is hard to 3D print and expensive. I’ve not tried to 3D print with it (yet). THANK YOU I hope that you can find this print useful, too. Do check them out. PRINTING INFORMATION My prints are made with eSUN PETG 1.75mm Orange filament, with 0.2mm layer height and 15% infill on a Bambu X1 Carbon printer. No supports are required. Additional profiles are included that offer multiple clips of the same size on the one build plate. Both print profiles and the individual STL files are included for download. Q&A Q: Why does the clip break when I try to clamp really thick packets? A: These clips are intended to flex and close most plastic or paper bags, but there are limits. A useful sign that you are clamping something too thick is if you have difficulty closing the clip. Forcing the clip closed over a thick packet will either permanently distort the plastic clip or break it. Neither desirable outcomes. Like your favourite crisps packet. My preferred plastic for the clips is PETG. A tougher plastic, like PA6 (Nylon) will resist breakage further, but maybe your use case is unrealistic for this clip design and you should consider a clip that is designed for clamping thick objects. Q: My clip became brittle and broke when I placed the clamped packet in the freezer. Why? A: PLA becomes brittle when exposed to sub-zero temperatures. PETG handles sub-zero temperatures much better than PLA. Q: I went for what I thought was a strong plastic, Polycarbonate. Why did it break? A: Polycarbonate (PC) and most likely Carbon Fibre based plastics are stiff and don’t like to flex much, hence some of these plastics are unsuitable for this clip design.
