The writer holds a sheet inscribed with the first verses of the fable The Fox and the Grapes. The plinth of the statue is decorated with nine reliefs illustrating the following fables: The Frog that wanted to be as big as an Ox, The Fox and the Stork, The Crow and the Fox, The Ass in the Lion's Skin, The two Bulls and the Frog, The Oak and the Reed, The Earthen Pot and the Iron Pot.
