About this 3D model
Commissioned in 1752 by the Marquise de Pompadour, mistress of Louis XV and patron of the arts, the statue was shown to the king before its presentation to the public at the French Royal Academy's annual Salon. This Cupid is displayed at the Louvre opposite Falconet's Menacing Cupid, another masterpiece acquired by the Marquise, who was particularly fond of contemporary sculpture.
