Its fossils were discovered in marine sediments of the Pisco Basin, revealing a relatively small, streamlined archaeocete adapted for fully aquatic life. Unlike earlier whale ancestors that could still move on land, Supayacetus possessed reduced hind limbs and a powerful tail for swimming. Its elongated skull and sharp teeth suggest it preyed on fish and other marine animals. This species helps scientists understand the transition from primitive amphibious whales to the fully oceanic basilosaurids that dominated ancient tropical seas.
