About this 3D model

I wanted a 3D printed port I could attach to a narrow but tall container to minimize feed waste and to maximize feed capacity, while reducing the risk of spoilage due to rain. I had previously been using a shoebox with two PVC pipes, and while that worked it allowed too much water and other problems in my outdoor enclosure. This is a great solution, as the port is slightly enlarged toward the back arch to encourage birds to poke their heads in for their feed. I have tested it on my quail, and they were very quick to catch on to the new system. I use it with both oystershell and their feed. When choosing a container to attach these to, look for a container which is narrow depth-wise, and tall. This will ensure that as the quail eat as much grain as possible is exposed and encouraged to fall down into the open port area. You should place the ports with perhaps a quarter inch of space between the base of the container and the bottom of the port. I used a 6.5 qt WeatherTight tote from The Container Store, as it was short enough to fit in the enclosure but also narrow enough to get all the feed through the ports.
