About this 3D model
I love my P1S! But the screen glow is kinda annoying sometimes, particularly when I'm working with the lights off. So I wanted a cover for it. I found one on here and printed it, but found the print in place hinge fatigued with use and fell into pieces eventually. So I went to the drawing board and designed a totally new cover! And then found some issues with it and I re-designed a cover! And then found other, different issues and OVER-designed a cover! And after a bunch more issues… here we are. After several revisions I'm pretty happy with this one. I tried M3 screws but found it didn't play as nicely as I wanted with PLA, so I tried heat-set threaded inserts and setting those warped the hinge body. And then I realised the best screw is… no screw at all, so this model uses PTFE tubing as a friction-fit screw (I cut mine to 17mm, I think?) and it allows for great movement without being wobbly. I included inserts in the lid and the body for 6mm X 1.5mm magnets, since I've noticed some of the other covers tend to bend out at the edges and allow for light bleed. I would STRONGLY recommend printing with my print settings and using PETG for the support interface layer-- it allows for the hinge bodies to pop the supports out super-super cleanly. Beyond that, I didn't have to change much in terms of settings-- ran adaptive height along the tops of the hinge bodies for a cleaner print, and used a brim on the frame part. If you print the frame and find it's an unacceptably tight fit, just scale it in the slicer maybe 1%.
