Surprise a loved one with this custom gift box containing fluttering butterflies and a center compartment to hold candies or other small items. Printing: The Butterfly Box prints in six pieces. Prints well in PLA: other materials may work but have not been tested. No support structure is needed for the box or the lower wings on the butterfly. A small support is needed to print the upper wings of the butterfly. The flying butterflies are powered by rubber bands. Assembling: Glue walls to the bottom of the box; let dry. Assemble butterflies with rubber bands and optional washers.* Gently bend the upper wings in opposing directions to produce flying effect. Bend box walls upward; wind butterflies and position inside the folding walls. Place lid atop the walls. (Tip: use a larger rubber band to hold the box walls up while winding and loading the butterflies.) Supplies Needed: Rubber Bands - NO.8 or 1/4 inch (13mm) GlueRecommended washers: Traxxas part number 3982 PTFE-Coated 6X8X0.5mm OR Alternate washers: Any Amazon 6X8X0.5 washer (shim), usually stainless steel. *Butterflies fly best when washers are used between the two printed parts. Butterflies will still work without washers but will not have as much of a flying effect. (Disclaimer) Butterflies flutter up to 6 inches high. They are not designed to fly far.
