I had some trouble with the motor stepper drivers overheating during long prints. They switch to emergency mode when they overheat, basically this means they disable micro-stepping and move only full steps. This will almost always ruin the prints, since the cohesion along the axis is lost and the object will either look pretty bad or rip open during or after printing. The fan I use is a radial 80mm fan from a PC with slot attachment. It cooled my graphics card 9 years ago. I simply removed the slot attachment and use some zip ties and drilled holes to attach the fan to the frame near the controller board. I rigged up an old 12V power supply and it was ready to go. The outlet blows directly through the piggiback-'tunnel' where the stepper drivers are mounted. I'm planning to design a PCB cover with matching air intakes to further improve cooling should the need arise.
