Model Description:This download contains a highly detailed model of a late version of the Panzer IV, the Panzer IV AusF H, featuring among other characteristic features, the long-barreled 7,5cm L/48 cannon and skirts on the turret and sides. Documentation and references for the real vehicle were rigorously studied to make the model as geometrically accurate as possible, except in the cases where printability would have to be sacrificed (such as the fender thickness). Historical Description:The Panzer IV was originally designed as an infantry-support vehicle, meant to engage fortifications and other softer targets with high-explosive ammunition. The vehicle was rapidly up-gunned and up-armored to be used as a battle tank, a role originally filled by the Panzer III. The earlier models (A-F1) featured the 7,5cm KwK 37 L/24 howitzer. As time went on the vehicle was progressively upgraded with increased armoring and long barreled 7,5cm cannons. The up gunning culminated with the 7,5cm L/48 cannon seen on the H and J variants. The Panzer IV AusF H is what people imagine when they hear "Panzer IV". It has the long gun as well as the iconic skirts. This version of the vehicle was arguably the strongest, as the later J variant made many sacrifices to streamline production. In Armored Advance:In armored advance the Panzer IV AusF H provides a slight upgrade over the G in terms of survivability in the form of health and side armor, while retaining the mobility from its predecessor. The frontal armor is 80mm thick, which can stop smaller armaments. The vehicle also possesses a very potent cannon, having good piercing and damage characteristics. The vehicle is the primary battle tank for German forces, comparable to late T-34 and M4 Sherman units.
