About this 3D model

The Late Roman command group surveys the deployment of their troops with a faint, hard-won pride. Despite the years and the crumbling edges of the Empire, the lines still form true, shields locked and standards held high. In that ordered advance, they glimpse the old Rome—its martial spirit and discipline stubbornly alive for one more battle. The evolution of both the organization and equipment of the imperial legions gave rise to new terms. Thus, the Optio became known as the Biarchus; the musician, the Tubicen; and the bearer of the dragon-shaped standard, the Draconarius. New names for troubled times. After centuries of warring against both foreign and domestic foes, the Romans gradually adopted the arms and attire of the very peoples they fought. To those familiar only with the image of the old imperial legionary, their later appearance would have been startling—a reflection of an empire reshaped by the world it once sought to conquer.
