About this 3D model
UPDATE 2024-10-04: Redesigned supports for easier removal (removed some parts and increased the distance between the top of the support and the next layer to 0.25mm (This is untested. Please let me know if it prints ok and the supports are easy to remove) Old New I also removed the nut support and added 1 layer covering the bolt holes instead. This will make the recess for the nuts print cleaner and stronger. You just have to poke a hole through that 1 layer of filament for the bolts go through. I've also increased the overall wall count to 3 (not shown in the pictures above). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a remix of the blade holding part of 重型美工刀 Heavy duty utility knives . It now takes “standard” UK utility knife blades 60mm x 19mm. (Commonly called a Stanly Knife in the UK) I also added built-in support for the area where the blade is inserted, which you will need to remove. *Using PETG or something stronger than PLA for the part on the build plate called “SPACER_REV_B.STL” is highly recommended, as the one I printed with PLA snapped after a while. You could always print that part again at a later date if you only have PLA right now. I do not have the correct size M3 Bolts at the moment, but M3*8 and M3*20 still work, even though it looks really bad :D Thank you to 威克 for their remix, and OBERTECH for the original model. Hardware requirments: 1 x Stanley blade (60mm x 19mm) 4 x M3*16 bolts 2 x M3*4 bolts 6x M3 nuts 8 x M3 washers - Assembly guide: Get yourself to this point… Add 4 washers (2 on each of the bolts on the left). Optionally add grease. Install the remaining internal kinfe components and add the last 4 washers. (2 on each of the bolts on the left). Optionally add grease. Install the final, external part of the kinfe and the 4 nuts. Don't over-tighten the 2 nuts on the left. Mess with the tightness until you find the sweet spot. Important note: This will never operate as nicely as a real knife that uses propper bearings (not even close), but I do think the original model could be improved just by making the tolerances a little tighter, or by modifying it more extensively to actually use propper barings, which I think would make a massive difference. Also, to be honest, I think it's kinda FUGGLY when open because of the blade shape. Which is a shame, because it's an amazing looking knife otherwise. So repositioning the blade, or moddling around it in some other way could possibly make it look a lot better. That is a challange I would like to take on myself at some point in the future, unless somebody gets there first :) *Description updated: 2025-05-21
