About this 3D model
This late roman command group set captures a moment of grim resolve in the closing days of the Late Roman Army. At the centre of the scene stands the officer, a veteran ducenarius, commanding 200 soldiers, his stance firm behind a broad oval shield, armour layered in heavy scales and plates that speak of long campaigns on the frontier. Around him gather the elite of his Command Group: a horn-blower wrapped in finely sculpted mail, caught mid-breath as he calls the troops to form up, and one standard-bearer gripping a tall, sinuous pole from which rich, cloth-like banner hang, it's folds frozen in motion as if whipped by a cold border wind. These finely detailed miniatures are loaded with character: crested helmets with reinforced brow-ridges, meticulously rendered belts, scabbards and pouch-work, and boots firmly planted on raised bases that suggest the rough ground of some distant limes. Every figure looks ready to take its place at the heart of a late Roman battle line, guiding the manoeuvres of the infantry blocks that follow. On the tabletop or in a display case, this command group becomes the narrative core of an army, embodying the discipline, weariness and defiant pride of the Comitatenses as they march to defend the last frontiers of Rome.
