About this 3D model

Model Description:This download contains a highly detailed model of an early-production StuG III AusF A assault gun, featuring the short-barreled 7,5cm cannon and a plethora of details faithfully recreated to represent the early version of the vehicle. Documentation and references for the real vehicle were rigorously studied to make the model as geometrically accurate as possible, except in the cases where printability would have to be sacrificed (such as the fender thickness). Historical Description:The StuG III was the most produced German armored vehicle during World War II. Referred to as an assault gun, early versions of the vehicle possessed the short-barreled 7,5cm L/24 cannon and were used for infantry support. As the war progressed, the StuG III gradually shifted to playing a role more akin to that of a tank destroyer, being upgraded to the L/43 cannon with the StuG III AusF F, and later the L/48 with the AusF F8 and G. The early models featured 50mm of frontal armor, a decent amount for the time. The late models of the vehicle would be upgraded to feature up to 80mm of armor, in addition to the aforementioned long barreled guns. The StuG III AusF A was the first version of the vehicle to see service, with 36 being produced in early 1940, before the more numerous StuG III AusF B entered production. The StuG III was based on the Panzer III chassis and featured the same 6-road wheel/side torsion bar suspension that was present from the Panzer III AusF E onward. The StuG III removed the turret from the Panzer III, reducing its weight and cost, and replaced it with a fixed casemate structure allowing for a more powerful cannon to be mounted, albeit by sacrificing some tactical flexibility. The StuG III AusF A would quickly be replaced by the AusF B and saw limited service during the Battle of France. In Armored Advance:In armored advance the StuG III AusF A is a relatively well-armored vehicle for early-war battles, and features a cannon that does considerable damage to lightly armored vehicles and infantry units. While the cannon does higher damage than most vehicles of the time period, its abiltiy to pierce armor is quite lackluster, meaning it cannot engage heavier units effectively. When positioned against more advanced vehicles the StuG III A will struggle, with health depleting rapidly as the armor is no longer sufficient, and its' firepower being unable to do much, if any damage to the opposition.
