He was kind and strong, protecting villages from trouble and floods, and his loud laughter echoed through the surrounding forests. But one day, when Theodore went down to the river to drink the water, dark clouds covered the sky and a foul thing rose from the depths of the river. It was an ancient evil, awakened after a long sleep. It wrapped around Theodore, piercing his soul, causing terror and pain in his heart. The giant, once full of light, began to lose his mind. Every night he was plagued by nightmares where he saw his hands destroying what he had once protected. With each passing day, the foulness consumed him and kindness gave way to rage. Soon people began to notice that Theodore no longer laughed. His footsteps, once light and joyful, now sounded like a portent of trouble. He wandered through the forests, and everything he touched rotted and died. Trees lost their leaves, flowers withered, and there was anxiety in the air. People began to fear their protector. They gathered in council to find a way to rid Theodore of the foulness. Some suggested finding magical herbs, others said they should turn to the ancient gods. But no one knew that the sinister power was already deeply rooted in the giant's heart.
