Unlike typical club-tailed ankylosaurs, Stegouros featured a "macuahuitl" tail resembling an Aztec weapon, with flat, blade-like structures. Measuring about 2 meters long, this herbivore represents a blend of basal and derived traits, offering insight into ankylosaur evolution in Gondwana. Named after local Mapuche mythology, Stegouros elengassen highlights the diversity and adaptability of dinosaurs in isolated regions of prehistoric Earth.
