About this 3D model
This design is to add a front lid for the center console of Civic 10th gen. It might be only me, but I had a feeling that something is missing in the interior of the civic, as the front side of the center console is uncovered. But apparently there is not product for that. So, I made it myself. In my opinion, it looks naturally blending to the rest of the interior. It consist of: 3d print parts - Lid - Back cover - Base bracket - Hinge - Linkage middle - Linkage arm (either 3d print or sheet metal, see description below) Hardware - M3x10-12 Hex head screw (10x, 6x de) - M3x10 shoulder bolt (4x, in case of using the sheet metal link) - M3x8 countersunk screw (4x) - M3x5.7 thread insert (2x) - Cylinder shape magnet dia.4mm, length 8-10 (4x) - Double sided tape (e.g. 3M VHB thickness 0.85mm) 3d print linkage or sheet metal one For opening mechanism, it has a linkage hinge design, as the space is limited and it will not achieve a convenient opening with a simple hinge. The linkage can be 3d printed, however, I made another option to make it as a sheet metal part(t2.0). It gives a solid feeling when it’s opened. I personally ordered the part manufactured from JLNCNC. Please see in the picture for more information. As I wanted to avoid using a threaded part of a bolt as an axis to the sheet metal, I chose M3 shoulder bolts instead of regular M3 hex bolts. I found plenty of items on Aliexpress, that has M3 thread, 4mm diameter cylinder shape. Please pair it with Spacer t1.8 to compensate the thickness. Lid structure The lid consist of 2 parts. The lid itself and the back cover. This is to achieve a good printing quality as well as to ease wrapping it with some alcantara-like fabric etc. this structure covers edges of the wrapping material inside. 2 parts are assembled using M3x8 countersunk screws. In addition, I made a version with texture on. For those who wants to use directly without wrapping, it might be an option. M3 connection I designed it those M3 screw connections to directly screw into the 3d printed parts, except the lid-hinge bracket connection where I use a thread insert. It may sounds a little rough, but I concluded that this is the most practical way for this design, as it provides enough connection, some room to adjust its friction, also to achieve the compact design. I recommend to “pre-screw” (simply screw it once before assembling) them to form a nice thread. You can also use forming-type M3 tap, if you want to be more precise.
