Discovered in Alberta, it belonged to the leptoceratopsid family, which lacked large horns seen in later ceratopsians. Estimated to be one of the smallest horned dinosaurs, it measured under a meter in length. It had a short, deep jaw adapted for chewing tough vegetation. Named in 2012, its genus means "griffin horned face," and the species honors paleontologist Ian Morrison. Gryphoceratops lived in a lush, coastal environment alongside other dinosaurs, contributing to the diverse ecosystem of Cretaceous North America.
