Its action combined Johann Friedrich Vetterli’s bolt design with the tubular magazine and elevator system from the American Winchester rifles, resulting in one of the most unique and advanced firearm designs of its time. While other European armies were still experimenting with simpler single-shot rifles, such as the Gras, the Snider, or the Gewehr 71, Switzerland took a decisive step forward by adopting a high capacity repeating service rifle. For decades, the Vetterli remained as one of the most advanced military rifles in Europe. This is a 3D-printed replica of the Swiss Vetterli M81, created to faithfully reproduce the appearance and mechanisms of the original design. This replica is completely inert, non-functional, and safe, with no capability to fire and no operational firearm components. It is intended strictly for educational, historical, and display purposes. The use of 3D printing demonstrates how modern manufacturing methods can help preserve, study, and share historical military technology in a responsible and accessible way.
