About this 3D model
Model Description:This download contains a highly detailed model of the VK45.02 (P) AusF B concept heavy tank. This vehicle was the Porsche proposal for the Tiger II with the turret mounted at the rear, which ultimately was never built. Documentation and references for the real vehicle were rigorously studied to make the model as geometrically accurate as possible, except in the cases where printability would have to be sacrificed (such as the fender thickness). Historical Description:The VK45.02 (P) was a proposed German heavy tank designed during World War 2. The vehicle was the Porsche competitor for the Tiger II tank, though the Henschel design was ultimately selected. The hull was never built, however 50 examples of the turret were produced and used on early production Tiger II tanks while the turret for the Henschel design was being completed. A fact of note is that while the early turret is often referred to as the Porsche turret, and the late the Henschel, they were in fact both produced by Krupp. The "Porsche" turret simply refers to the fact it was meant for the Porsche proposal for the vehicle. Both the production Tiger II, and the VK45.02 (P) proposal featured the 8.8cm KwK 43 L/71 cannon, though the VK45.02 (P), as proposed, was lighter and had thinner armor than the Henschel design.
