About this 3D model

This is a very detailed 3d topo of Yosemite Valley's Cathedral Spires. The model is so detailed that you can clearly see the ledge on the classic climbing route on Lower Cathedral Spire. I made it from a LIDAR dataset collected to study nitrogen export and made available on http://opentopo.sdsc.edu/. The LIDAR point cloud was gridded to a 0.5m resolution. You can see my tutorial video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4-ICkvyJv0 The print took 22 hrs. It was sliced with Simplify3d at default high quality settings and printed in PLA on a FlashForge. It was printed with 6 shells, no infill and no bottom. Those trees take an incredible amount of time to print. This thing was featured on the 3D Printing Today podcast available on iTunes, Stitcher radio or direct from the source at http://threedprintingtoday.libsyn.com/
