The inscription on the stele reads "Gaius, son of Skymnos, dedicated (this) to Apollo Propylaion". Apollo was one of the most celebrated gods of the Hellenistic era. As the god of music, truth and prophecy, healing, sun light, plague, poetry and more, many occasions of a citizen's life lead to praying and making offerings to Apollo, with steles such as this one.
