The scene is a representation of a dream: to the right, Pope Innocent II is sleeping, guarded by two subordinates, when St Peter appears to him and indicates a miracle represented on the left side - St. Francis supporting the collapsing Roman church of St John in lateran. Once awake, the Pope would accept the Franciscan order, as is shown in the center background.
