“There’s just something not quite right about Ericson.” That’s what the officer assessment says. Good scores in marksmanship, swordplay, and tactics. The other men get along with him well enough. He obeys orders and doesn’t create problems for the higher-ups. But there’s something missing . . . or something extra? In any case, he never seems to be promoted. He’s not ready, or he’s too eager, or doesn’t want it enough, or wants it too much. He’s not going anywhere. Ericson doesn’t even seem to mind. He knows that something isn’t quite right about him too.
