This sculpture is a carved painted and gilded poplar Madonna. A Madonna is a representation of Mary, either alone or with her child Jesus. The relief depicts the Virgin holding the Child torso-portrait. Jesus is depicted doing a benediction (blessing) gesture with his right hand.
