Stephan Balkenhol (1957) is a contemporary German artist known for his painted statues of the human form. He attended the Hamburg School of Fine Arts from 1976–1982 and has since continued creating sculptures which are often reminiscent of totems. The figures are used as mirrors for ourselves, gaining meaning with every viewer personally, rather than trying to convey an overall message or concept.
