Project Difficulty: Medium This project showcases how to design and build a sound-responsive shadow lamp paper sculpture lamp. Project log: The project was designed in 2022 and the video was shot in 2024. The shadow lamp (paper sculpture lamp) pattern photos can be disassembled and replaced, and you can replace them with any photo or pattern you like at any time, supporting both landscape and portrait light painting patterns. It is a good choice as a desktop decoration or a gift for friends. It can be set to sound-responsive mode, or normal animation lighting effects, or solid color display, the firmware has a variety of lighting effects built in. Appearance Design The appearance adopts a traditional square design, supporting both landscape and portrait light paintings. The cover uses a magnetic design for easy removal. After removing the top cover, you can replace the light painting at any time. It also supports horizontal or vertical placement, with two built-in Type-C 5V power supply interfaces. When placed horizontally or vertically, you can charge it according to the corresponding Type-C charging interface. The front mic supports the pickup of both landscape and portrait sounds, and the switch uses a traditional retro mechanical switch design, a consistent design with a pure feel. All parts are designed based on 3D printing, and as such, the structural design can be relatively relaxed based on design specifications. In this project, the part design may be relatively complex. Structural Design and Assembly The structural design adopts a front direct projection lighting design. The lamp beads are directly in contact with the panel, which is designed as a white isolation universal base, and the rest is the case of the light painting. Considering the printing time, I did not use a single piece of printing (I will consider using a high-speed 3D printer to print a single piece directly in the future), and I split it into multiple parts. The core design is a large lower shell plus a top cover panel, the top cover panel and the lower shell use magnetic adsorption, and the inside is divided into two pattern support pieces and a pcb cover plate, and a Type-C bracket is designed inside, and a mic panel is designed outside. When placed horizontally, use the bottom Type-C interface for power supply, and when placed vertically, use the back Type-C interface for power supply. The front is a mic hole, the side is a mic panel, and the back is a power switch. Supports battery-free Type-C direct power supply or 18650 battery or polymer battery power supply. In this project, I used 18650 for the battery version, although it sacrifices design space dimensions. Compatible with ordinary polymer lithium batteries, if you like, you can use polymer lithium batteries yourself, the terminal wires are designed as PH2.0 2-pin terminal plugs. If you don't need to use a battery due to cost considerations, you only need to remove the module and the pcb for a simple extra treatment. In this size version of the shadow lamp, the size of the light painting is designed to be 150mmx100mm, with a thickness of 1.6mm, supporting 7 segmented patterns (if you like, you can replace the isolation base with segmented patterns, which can get you 8 segmented patterns). In the future, I may design larger shadow lamps to accommodate larger patterns. Post-processing The post-processing of the shell can be done by purchasing stickers and sticking them on yourself, or by sanding and painting according to your preference.
