About this 3D model

I have crafted a 1970s-era STAR TREK sign , soon to be enhanced with atmospheric backlighting. Achieving optimal light diffusion and layer thickness proved challenging, but I proudly present two projects featuring front layer thicknesses of 2 or 3 mm, depending on LED brightness. Realization requires black filament for the frame, transparent filament for the lettering, and white filament for rear cover reflection. I printed the 2 mm v2 in PETG with 100% infill on a textured printing plate for superior aesthetics. Fewer seams yield greater text transparency (see image). For the lettering, 100% infill is crucial for optimal transparency. A "must-have" for any Star Trek aficionado, and no supports are needed in slicer settings ? A small amount of adhesive may enhance stability. Note on Printing with Transparent Material: To maximize transparency, minimizing seams and layers is paramount. My experiences reveal: Layer Height Adjustment: With a standard 0.4 mm nozzle and 0.2 mm layer height , a 2 mm model requires 10 layers . Increasing layer height to 0.3 mm reduces this to approximately 6.66 layers , improving transparency. Nozzle Size for Enhanced Results: A 0.6 mm nozzle with 0.4 mm layer height yields only 5 layers for the same 2 mm height. This further enhances transparency while maintaining quality. Fewer layers allow for more uniform light transmission, resulting in a clearer, more transparent effect. Naturally, the aforementioned considerations relate to quality and detail.
