A pioneering social reformer, Quaker and politician, Harvey dedicated his life to public service and conscience-led activism. Born in Leeds, he studied in Oxford, Berlin and Paris before working at the British Museum. He championed poverty relief and prison reform. Elected MP three times, Harvey advocated for conscientious objectors and progressive education. His writings on Christianity and the Society of Friends reflected his deep faith and moral conviction. Harvey’s legacy is one of compassion, intellect and unwavering commitment to justice. Harvey was also the brother of writer William Fryer Harvey, best known for his chilling short story The Beast with Five Fingers.
