However their natural tendancy to be a defensive fighting force led them to create large shields to defend themselves with. Capable of forming Impenetrable shield walls it takes only a few Legionnaires to form a strong bastion where their unparalleled stamina lets them outlast most foes. All Legions are trained to use the Gladius, a short sword capable of delivering decisive blows. Legionnaries use this as their primary weapon and are the main fighting force of the Tortan Legions. One capable warrior is selected to be a Standard Bearer. These honored veterans hold thier legions banner with pride with each banner having its own legion symbol painted on it. This helps commanders and captains identify each legion for battle tactics and manouvers. The Icon of the Tortan Pterrodon atop the banner symbolises wisdom and patience to the Tortan peoples and helps inspire the troops.
