Print tested. ---------------In the forest there is a cabin where a family lives — Papa, who protects and feeds the egg; Mama, whose task is to keep the offerings flowing; and their Only Son, who protects his parents to the very end. The inhabitants of a nearby village wander to the cabin in search of help. Mama operates on them with two knives, replacing parts of their bodies. The villagers receive no real help, and their old diseases eventually carry them to the grave anyway. Yet everyone still makes the journey to the cabin when they fall ill. No one knows why. Peterson had previously lost his hands and feet in a mine when a rock fell on top of him. The village doctor had treated him, but failed; he was forced to amputate both limbs. Now, when Peterson developed a sore throat and his cough had been blood-tinged for several days, he decided not to trust the village doctor. Instead, he chose to travel to the cabin. There, Mama cut off Peterson’s head and replaced it with a bird’s beak. Peterson was satisfied—if he was still capable of feeling anything without a brain.
