About this 3D model

Model Description:This download contains a highly detailed model of the early production variant of the SU-76, featuring the closed fighting compartment that was later opened up on the more largely produced models. Documentation and references for the real vehicle were rigorously studied to make the model as geometrically accurate as possible, except in the cases where printability would have to be sacrificed (such as the fender thickness). Historical Description:The SU-76 was the original incarnation of the later SU-76M Tank Destroyer, designed by the Soviet Union as a cheap infantry support vehicle. The vehicle was found to be able to engage hostile armor in addition to fortifications. The SU-76 had a closed fighting compartment with a roof, unlike the more common SU-76M. This resulted in some issues with crew comfort, ability to escape the vehicle in emergencies, and most critically it caused issues with ventilation when firing the cannon. Only around 500 of this version were produced overall, with no examples surviving the war. The SU-76 featured the same cannon and similar layout as the SU-76M, as well as both being derived from the T-70 tank. The SU-76 did have several unique features however, notably the engine/transmission system from early T-70 tanks, which were found to perform poorly and were changed on the SU-76M. In Armored Advance:In armored advance the SU-76 provides a cheap multi-role cannon. The armor is insufficient to stop all but the weakest of guns. However, the cannon is capable of dealing with many early war units effectively as well as having anti-infantry firepower with HE shells, to allow the vehicle to run its historical role as an infantry support weapon. The vehicle does not possess the same AT prowess as other Soviet tank destroyers, such as the SU-85, however it is cheaper and makes up for some lack of AT firepower with the ability to efficiently deal with infantry and other soft targets.
