The groups of archers briefly positioned themselves at the edge of the forest as the enemy forces began deploying a short distance from the trees. Without waiting for them to complete their maneuvers, and following the agreed signal, the bowstrings vibrated in unison, releasing a deadly volley of arrows. The first hail of projectiles caught the enemy off guard, their formation still incomplete, and several fyrdmen fell to the ground, pierced by the shafts. The leader of the archers gave the signal once more, and just as the first arrows hit their marks, a second volley followed, causing similar devastation. With their objective achieved, the archers swiftly retreated into the forest, disappearing from the enemies' view and avoiding any possible retaliation. Chaos and disarray engulfed the enemy ranks. Their leaders desperately attempted to regroup the men, but fear had taken hold. The soldiers moved restlessly, unnerved by their losses, and some, overwhelmed by panic, discarded their weapons and fled, leaving their unit weakened and vulnerable.
